Some days, it isn’t one big thing that makes life feel difficult.
It is everything at once.
The bills.
The family.
Work.
The house.
People needing you.
Messages you haven’t answered.
Things you promised yourself you would do.
Problems you thought you had dealt with suddenly appearing again.
You keep going because you have to, but somewhere inside you are thinking:
I am tired.
I don’t know how much more I can carry.
If life feels too much today, you don’t have to bring God a perfect prayer.
You can come tired.
You can come frustrated.
You can come with tears.
You can even come without knowing what to say.
You Don’t Have to Carry Everything at Once
Look at what is around you right now.
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Just this moment.
Take one slow breath.
For the next few minutes, you don’t need to fix anything.
Let us pray.
Let Us Pray
Dear God,
Life feels like too much today.
There is so much going around in my mind that I don’t even know where to begin.
Every time I think I have dealt with one thing, something else needs my attention.
I am tired of being needed.
I am tired of worrying.
I am tired of trying to hold everything together.
God, I need a moment.
Please meet me here.
I don’t need all my problems to disappear in this moment.
I just need enough peace to breathe.
Help me put down the things that don’t need to be carried today.
Show me what really needs my attention and what can wait.
When I feel guilty for resting, remind me that I am human.
When I feel that I should be doing more, help me recognise what I have already done.
When other people need things from me, give me wisdom to know when I can help and when I need to say, “Not right now.”
God, please help me with the things I cannot control.
There are situations I cannot fix.
People I cannot change.
Answers I cannot force.
And futures I cannot predict.
I give those things to You.
Help me concentrate on what I can do.
One meal.
One telephone call.
One task.
One conversation.
One small step.
God, if I need help, give me courage to ask for it.
If I need rest, help me allow myself to rest.
If something can wait until tomorrow, help me leave it until tomorrow.
I don’t have to finish my whole life today.
Please bring some quiet into my mind.
Bring peace into my home.
Give me patience with the people around me.
And give me patience with myself.
Tonight, when my head touches the pillow, help me leave today’s problems in today.
Tomorrow will have its own things to deal with.
But I am here now.
I am breathing now.
And for this moment, that is enough.
Thank You for listening when I don’t have beautiful words.
Thank You for hearing the prayer underneath my tiredness.
Stay close to me.
Help me through today.
Tomorrow, we can begin again.
So it is.
When Everything Feels Urgent
When life becomes overwhelming, everything can start to feel equally important.
It may help to write down what is worrying you and choose only one or two things that genuinely need your attention today.
Some things can wait.
Some things can be shared with another person.
And some things may not need doing at all.
If you are struggling to cope with everyday life for a long period, consider speaking to someone you trust or an appropriate professional. Prayer can be part of your support, but you don’t have to carry everything alone.
A Short Prayer for an Overwhelming Day
When you don’t have the energy for a longer prayer, simply say:
“God, life feels too much today. Help me with the next small thing.”
