Money worries can follow you everywhere.
You can be making dinner, driving to work, trying to sleep or spending time with your family, and suddenly your mind starts adding everything up again.
How much is left?
What is coming out of the bank tomorrow?
What if something unexpected happens?
You may be managing to pay your bills, but only just. Perhaps your income has changed, prices have gone up, or you are frightened that the money you have will not last.
You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart before you pray.
If money has been weighing heavily on your mind, take a few quiet minutes with God.
You Don’t Have to Hide Your Worry
Sometimes we feel that we should be grateful for what we have and therefore shouldn’t admit that we are worried.
You can be grateful and still be frightened.
You can have faith and still have questions.
God already knows what you are carrying.
When you’re ready, pray with me.
Let Us Pray
Dear God,
Money has been on my mind again.
I keep calculating.
I keep checking.
I keep wondering whether there will be enough.
And I am tired.
God, You know what I need.
You know what comes into my home and what needs to go out.
You know about the expenses I expected and the ones I didn’t.
You know the things I need to pay for now and the things I keep putting off until later.
Please quiet my mind for a moment.
Help me stop imagining every possible thing that could go wrong.
Give me wisdom with what I have today.
Help me make good decisions, even when those decisions are difficult.
Show me where I can make changes.
Help me recognise what I truly need and what can wait.
And please guide me towards opportunities that can improve my situation.
If there is a door I need to knock on, give me courage to knock.
If there is help available, help me ask for it.
If there is something I need to change, give me the strength to change it.
God, please protect me from making decisions out of fear.
When I feel desperate, help me slow down.
When something sounds too good to be true, give me wisdom.
When I am tempted to compare my life with someone else’s, remind me that I do not know their whole story.
Help me focus on my own home, my own needs and the life in front of me.
God, I pray for enough.
Enough food.
Enough warmth.
Enough to keep a safe home.
Enough for the people who depend on me.
And enough peace in my heart to enjoy what I already have without constantly worrying about what might happen tomorrow.
I don’t need to know the answer to everything tonight.
I just need help with my next step.
So I place tomorrow in Your hands.
I will deal with today.
Guide me.
Give me wisdom.
Give me patience.
And when money worries return, remind me that I can come back here and speak to You again.
Thank You for what I have today.
Thank You for every person who has helped me along the way.
And thank You for listening when I bring my worries to You.
So it is.
After Your Prayer
Prayer can help you find a quiet moment, but practical steps matter too.
If money is worrying you, it can help to write down what is coming in and what needs to go out. Seeing the numbers clearly may feel uncomfortable at first, but it can make the situation easier to understand.
If you are struggling with bills or debt, consider getting free, independent financial or debt advice. You do not have to wait until the situation becomes a crisis before asking for help.
Take things one decision at a time.
A Short Prayer for Difficult Moments
If the worry suddenly comes back during your day and you don’t have time for the full prayer, you can simply say:
“God, give me wisdom with what I have and guide my next step.”
