The Weirdest Movie I’ve Ever Watched: The Lost World

What’s the weirdest movie you’ve ever watched?

When I saw today’s WordPress writing prompt, “What’s the weirdest movie you’ve ever watched?”, one film came to mind: The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

I remember watching this film years ago, but I never finished it.

It wasn’t because I was frightened of dinosaurs. I simply wasn’t interested in them.

I found the film difficult to follow, and I couldn’t really connect with the story. Eventually, I stopped watching.

Sometimes, a film can be very popular, but that doesn’t mean everyone will enjoy it.

And that was my experience with The Lost World.

Perhaps I Was Watching It Through Different Eyes

Looking back, I wonder whether I would feel differently if I watched the film today.

Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood at the time.

Maybe the story wasn’t something I could appreciate.

Or perhaps dinosaurs simply weren’t my thing.

I don’t think we have to enjoy something just because other people love it.

Our interests are different, and that’s perfectly fine.

Now My Son Loves Dinosaurs

Life has a funny way of bringing things back to us.

Today, I have a young son who is fascinated by dinosaurs.

He loves them, and I enjoy seeing his excitement about something that interests him so much.

My son may be autistic, and I am learning more about how he experiences and understands the world.

His interest in dinosaurs has made me think about that film again.

Perhaps one day, he will convince me to sit down and watch The Lost World with him.

And who knows?

Maybe this time, instead of concentrating on whether I like the film, I will enjoy watching his excitement.

Sometimes, being a parent means discovering things through our children’s eyes.

Something that once seemed boring or strange to us can become meaningful because it brings happiness to someone we love.

Would I Watch The Lost World Again?

I think I would give it another chance.

Not necessarily because I have suddenly developed an interest in dinosaurs, but because I would be sharing the experience with my son.

I might even understand the story better this time.

Or perhaps I will still find it strange!

Either way, I think it could be a lovely experience for us to share, when he is old enough and comfortable with the film.

Speaking of Lost Things…

Writing about The Lost World has reminded me of something else.

Have you ever lost something important and struggled to remember where you put it?

Perhaps your keys, your purse, your phone, or something that holds special memories.

Sometimes, we search everywhere, become frustrated, and begin blaming ourselves for forgetting.

At Mother’s Ritual, I recently shared a prayer for anyone going through that experience.

It is a gentle prayer asking God for peace, guidance, a clear mind, and help finding something important that has gone missing.

If you have lost something and are feeling worried, I invite you to take a moment and pray with me.

Let us pray. Watch my Prayer to Find Lost Things below.

A Final Thought

Perhaps one day I will finish watching The Lost World and discover that I enjoy it more than I expected.

For now, I am happy that something I never found interesting has become a source of excitement for my son.

And that reminds me that our views can change as life changes.

What about you?

Have you ever watched a film you didn’t enjoy, only to give it another chance years later?

I would love to hear your experience.
